Reporting to the Service Manager, the Shop Service Manager will lead the team of shop technicians and HD Mechanics to complete rebuilds, breakdown repairs, preventative maintenance, PDIs, and used equipment inspections. The Surrey Service Department handles service and repairs for equipment in the GVRD and Fraser Valley regions on various material handling, compact and heavy equipment represented by such OEMs as Bobcat, Doosan, Linde, Clark, Konecranes, and Terberg.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical guidance, as required;
  • Create and maintain schedules;
  • Coach and develop apprentices;
  • Guide technicians to improve efficiencies;
  • Liaise with customers to provide detailed feedback on job status and scope changes, when required;
  • Oversee shop supplies’ inventory;
  • Assist the Service Manager with other duties, as required;
  • Promote and lead Health and Safety initiatives, whilst ensuring compliance to existing Health and Safety policies.

 

 

Talent Management Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to company Human Resources practices and procedures and fostering of positive ongoing relationships with all employees;
  • In conjunction and consultation with the HR department, ensure all necessary training and education is kept current, updated, and improved;
  • In consultation with the HR department, is responsible for the preparation and implementation of staff performance reviews, staff development, objective setting, and succession planning;
  • Train, develop, mentor, and coach junior team members;
  • Responsible for maintaining efficient and productive staffing levels;
  • Ensure the companies “ways of working” are modeled and adopted throughout their team; the incumbent will work with the company’s values to deliver a positive constructive work environment;
  • Responsible for the safety of all their staff.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • 2-3 years’ experience leading teams
  • High School diploma or related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrates a high level of attention to detail;
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Ability to read schematics and embrace continued learning;
  • In-depth understanding of mechanical equipment with a passion to learn;
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills;
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record;
  • Strong execution and communication skills both verbal and written;
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to contribute positively to the team environment with willingness and desire to learn;
  • A proactive autonomous individual is driven by their own high standards and desire to succeed;
